Life Drawing

Image
Reflection:  I love life drawing its one of my favourite things to do. there are quite a lot of successful drawings here I think, in fact I don't think there is such thing as an unsuccessful life drawing. It has been interesting trying different techniques, some I like and will use and others not so much.I particularly like the ones where I have used shading to express light and shadow, i think it gives the figures more volume.

Perspective

Image
Reflection:  I really enjoyed this activity. Accurate representation of geometric objects such as buildings is rather difficult, i can see in my resulting sketches where I haven't gone quite right. I do think on the second image however I have captured a sense of space and distance using the perspective of the building as a base. This is an activity that I feel you can never do enough of, and Id like to motivate myself to do sketches of this kind on a regular basis.

Screen Print

Image
This is the design I wanted to use for screen printing. I really like the design and think that since its black and white it would work well. I am not sure if the lines would be too thin/faint in order to print from so I would create a digital version where I darken the colours a bit if this version is unsuccessful.

Dry point etching

Image
The final outcome of my dry point etching: Reflection: I am quite sure that the paper must have been too damp when I went to print this dry point etching. However, I really like the outcome which is the most important thing. I wanted this to feel like an old vintage coin with a man with no identity displayed and I think that's what I got. This could have been a lot cleaner but in some respects I am glad its not

Lino Printing

Image
Reflection:  This is the first time i have properly done lino printing before so it was a challenge. I wasn't sure how well it was going to turn out. I am happy with some of the prints that i produced, especially the red or the ones on different coloured paper. I don't like the ones that came out blurred and messy and i think this might have been from using too much or too little printing ink. All in all a really interesting exercise and a new way of developing my work.

Developing Ideas for Lino and Dry Point

Image
Using the sketches I created on the trips to the gallery and museum I have begun to develop ideas to be used for Lino printing and dry point etching.  Reflection: I think some of these are really strong ideas that could make for very interesting prints. If i had had more time i think i would have made a few more, it was fun to do. I really loved drawing from life and developing those drawings. I could have tried some designs that weren't just the basic shape of the piece of lino, that is something to think about in the future.

Sense of place :Visit to the ceramics biennial

Sketches completed at the Ceramics Biennial. Reflection: I absolutely loved this exercise. Although sometimes i can struggle with concentration over long periods of time, i think i made some really interesting work. I think the most successful work i produced for this task were the ones with people in, they look like they have some kind of motion. It felt good not to be so precious about my drawings and just let the pencil flow more freely. I wish that i had taken the opportunity to use charcoal or pastel here, as it would make a much bolder impression on the page which i think could have worked well.
